// The experts for polyamide film

Since the founding of mf-folien GmbH, everything has revolved around polyamide film.
While initially there was only a small cast film production, today we can count ourselves as one of the leading manufacturers of polyamide films in Europe.

The areas of application of our polyamide film:

  • Packaging for food, feed, medical and pharmaceutical products
  • Vacuum bagging film for the aviation industry
  • SMC production (release film)
  • Construction and industrial applications

We are always aware of our responsibility towards our customers.
Therefore, it is always our aim to offer our customers quality.

WE PRODUCE

THESE FILM TYPES.

Polyamide films offer a unique combination of mechanical, thermal, optical and barrier properties and, due to the water absorption capacity typical of polyamide, are equipped with a natural plasticizing effect, which makes our films particularly suitable for thin and flexible, but still mechanically resistant, heat-stable and, last but not least, transparent applications.

In addition, polyamide films can be excellently laminated (i.e. combined with other polymers), printed and metallized.

After lamination, for example with polyethylene (PE), the polyamide layer gives the entire composite special mechanical properties, on which the well-known excellent deep-drawing ability of such structures is based.

If necessary, our polyamide films can be sterilized using various sterilization methods such as superheated steam, ethylene oxide or gamma (γ) radiation.

Our consistent quality ensures optimal process performance and end product performance.

THE AREAS OF APPLICATION

OF OUR PRODUCTS

Polyamide films are used in a variety of applications, both as monofilms (CPA) and as part of laminating composites (OPA and CPA films). These include possible uses in the non-food sector for various industrial and consumer goods, for medical and pharmaceutical products as well as flexible packaging for food and animal feed.

Our polyamide films have broad approval for direct and indirect food contact as well as for medical applications in accordance with various supra-regional and country-specific norms and standards. Above all, relevant EU directives such as EU Directive 10/2011, the requirements of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (the former BgVV or BGA), as well as the specifications of the Food & Drug Association (FDA) in the USA.

State-of-the-art

production

A polyamide film is a transparent and flexible surface structure. It usually consists of polyamide 6, a polar and semi-crystalline thermoplastic material, and is available from us in thicknesses between 12 µm and 200 µm. In addition to the classic flat film (also called Cast PA film “CPA”), we also offer oriented polyamide films (OPA or BOPA, as a biaxial, i.e. 2-dimensionally stretched PA film).

Polyamide films are recyclable monofilms that offer a unique combination of mechanical, optical, thermal and barrier properties, enabling a wide range of possible uses. These include films for a wide variety of technical applications, e.g. in the construction industry or for high-performance composites, for medical or pharmaceutical packaging or, supported by the proven safety for food use, for a wide variety of flexible food packaging.

Facts

that surprise

A hot thing

The (long-term) temperature stability of PA 6 can be significantly improved by additives that we integrate into our film extrusion process, for example up to 205°C (standard PA) or 230°C (special Co -Polyamide), which allows special adhesive techniques in aircraft and ship construction to be covered.

(Not) an ordeal

Release films are mono- or multi-layer CoEx polyamide films for the production of SMC (Sheet Molding Compounds), which are characterized by very good tear resistance and barrier properties. This ensures an effective curing process for the semi-finished products after they have passed through the logistics chain. These films are manufactured by mf-folien and sold exclusively through Lehmann & Voss & Co.

mf-folien up to the roof

Roof underlays are a staple in the construction industry and can be highly complex combinations of different materials, with polyamide films always being part of the solution. Our latest innovation is the flame-retardant Vario® Fire system.

Prescribed by a doctor

We not only process polyamides, but also produce cast film made from thermoplastic polyester (polybutylene terephthalate = PBT). These CPBT films are stiffer, more dimensionally stable (because they do not absorb water) and more heat stable than standard PA films and are therefore mainly used in composite films for packaging in the medical sector.

One step ahead

Innovations and sustainability do not contradict each other, but are lived by us. We feed almost all of the edge trimmings and finishing residues back into the production process in a closed cycle. We are currently working on a new generation of OPA films based on fully recycled polyamide qualities as well as new flat films based on polyamides made from renewable raw materials.

// Sustainability

Polyamides are much better

than their reputation!

Due to their unique property profile, they are the basis for replacing metallic materials or glass, which have to be manufactured using much more energy-intensive processes. In addition, they intensively support the so-called “downgauging”, the development of ever thinner film structures, which contributes to saving resources.

Polyamide films are of course recyclable; For monofilm applications in the technical sector, the material cycles can be easily closed and recycling can be practiced. For the recycling of composite materials or co-extruded multilayer films, both material (mechanical) and material (chemical, energetic) recycling can be achieved under adapted processing conditions.

In addition, we are working on new products using bio-based or fully recycled polyamide qualities.

Our

Production

The basis of our film production is a machine park that corresponds to the latest technology and is constantly improved and further developed in close cooperation with renowned mechanical engineering companies. We operate cast film systems for the production of sequentially biaxially stretched, oriented PA film (OPA) as well as for the production of unstretched cast films (CPA, CPBT).

We also have the necessary equipment for surface activation and assembly.

Quality assurance

through our laboratory

“No quality product without quality assurance.” To ensure this, our films are put through their paces in our in-house quality laboratory using the most modern procedures before they are delivered to our customers. The most important methods for determining mechanical, thermal and optical properties of our polyamide films are available here.
